The Hippy Hippy Cake!

It was a surprise 40th birthday party for a very good friend of mine.  This cake was ALL about him!!  Tie Dyed from the inside out!  It was huge too! 3 tier, 9 layers with photo spacers.  The photos were awesome, all of the birthday boy, from baby pictures to Daddy pictures, from prom pictures to wedding pictures and everything in between. It really made it fun to look at!
This cake included EvErY color of the rainbow.  It was stacked golden vanilla/rainbow, tutti frutti (birthday boy's favorite!), golden vanilla/rainbow on all 3 tiers with almond flavor butter cream.  SOOOO YUMMY! Oh and covered in rainbow tie dyed fondant.  There was a massive amount of food coloring in this cake indeed, but have no fear nobody walked away from this party with ADHD that didn't arrive at the party with it to begin with. ;-) I can't believe how moist this cake was! Must have been all that food coloring.

Oh and I forgot to mention every one was instructed to ware tie dye to the party too.  Even his little baby girl at 7 months old had a tie dyed onezie on! SO CUTE!

Bizzy Izzy

My friends little girl turned 2 this summer.  Her favorite color is yellow.  I think yellow is a great color for a cake!!  This was dark chocolate with chocolate butter cream.

On the fly!

I was visiting my sister-in-law and it happened to be my nephews birthday.  He was having a "fiesta birthday party".  So of course he needed a Sombrero Cake!  Or a Mexico Hat as my niece called it.  :-)  I was not at home, where I had the perfect pans for this cake, so I had to get creative.  I think it turned out pretty well for being out of my element.  At the birthday boys request, this cake was a lemon cake with lemon butter cream and covered in fondant.  I considered adding a little chili pepper powder to the fondant chili's but in the end decided not to.
Happy Birthday Dallin!  Thank you for letting me make your cake!  Love you.

A Mile Stone!

This cake marks a major mile stone for me!  One year ago I was paid for my first cake!  Last year this little cuttie turned 4 and wanted a flip flop cake.  This year she is 5 and it's all about Hello Kitty!!
The top tier is cherry chip cake with cherry frosting.  The bottom tier is strawberry and white cake, checkerbord pattern, with strawberry frosting.  Strawberry Nerds filled the boarder very well.  Hello Kitty is all MM fondant.  She really looks like she is falling over but truely she was not.  Her head is tilted a bit but that was intentional.  I could not get her wiskers to stand up to save my life, so they ended up pressed aginst her face, still cute though.

Score! He turnes 4!

This was for my nephews 4th birthday.  A sports theam.... Baseballs, dodgeballs, basketballs, footballs, soccer balls and tenis balls.  It was one week after I had surgery so I had my sister help by doing all the shopping and even come over one day to make all the fondant.
The twist on this cake was that she wanted a "big" cake but didn't need to feed a lot of people, so the bottom (basketball) tier is not cake, it is styrophome covered in fondant.  This was a first for me and it worked out GREAT!  I will deffinately reccomend that in the future.  Although it did cost a little more in product, it saved me big time in labor.
The top tier (baseball) was lemon cake with lemon buttercream, at the birthday boy's request.  The second tier (dodgeball) was dark chocolate fudge with chocolate creamcheese butter cream.

S..l..o..w..l..y getting back into it.

A friend of mine asked me months ago if I would make her Moms birthday cake. I had given myself the MUCH needed break and was excited about doing this one. It is a smaller version of one I had made before. I had fun and am glad to be making cakes again.
Dark chocolate fudge cake, filled with fresh strawberries and chocolate ganache, covered in dark chocolate cream cheese frosting and chocolate covered strawberries.

Refief Society Birthday

I LOVE the fact that I belong to the largest womens organization in the world!  The ladies of the LDS Relief Society in my ward are awesome!  When I got the phone call and was asked to make the cake for the Relief Society birthday party, I was heartbroken and excited all at the same time.  I had WAY overloaded myself with cakes and was just not sure how I was going to do it.  Maybe I would have someone else do the baking and I would decorate.  Well then my BFF/baker decided it was time to have her baby, just kidding. ;-)~ It was ok of course and it wasn't too complicated of a cake. I really enjoyed this one.
Marks words when he came home and opened the fridge to see it were "Holy Cow!" I obviously impressed him and that made me feel really good!
Dark chocolate fudge cake with chocolate ganache and fresh strawberries between each layer, covered with a chocolate cream cheese/butter cream frosting and garnished with huge chocolate dipped strawberries. YUMMY!!! I was so happy I was able to eat this one! The Relief Society seal was edible and done in sugar paper.  I found out at the party, that the relief society president herself did not want the seal on the cake. Oops! But everyone seemed to enjoy it and she told me that was the cake she wanted for her next birthday, minus the seal.

I Saved the Flop!

This is kind of hard to see but I looked pretty cool.  The side and top of the top tear is embossed with a Happy Birthday print, with balloons and curly streamers.  This was for a couple of friends of mine who had birthdays back to back so we did one big ladies lunch for them.  I cannot even believe this cake turned out like it did, because IT  WAS  A  MESS!!  If anything could go wrong, it DID with this cake!  Many times I wanted to call and say we are just going to have to go buy one, this is a flop!   But in the end I was able to pull it out.  The bottom tier is a white cake colored the same blue a purple as the fondant (the Birthday Girls' favorite colors).  I learned NOT to do a yokeless cake when it will need to be carved.  The top tier is dark chocolate and both have dark chocolate butter cream (that I had to make 3 batches of, because the first separated and the second clumped) and the fondant was some chocolate and some regular.   Another problem I had was trying to make that chocolate fondant!!  It was a very rainy and "humid" day (for Nevada, anyway) and I tried to blame the troubles on that, but I don't really know for sure what the problem was.  It just crumbled like dried out cake and I had to toss the whole batch of chocolate fondant.  The second batch just wouldn't get as dark as I wanted it to.  Like I said before, in the end, it turned out pretty...OK for my second topsy turve cake, anyway.  Now it tasted wonderful, so really that made up for the other flaws, I thought. ;-)~

Give the gift of flowers to someone you LoVe!

This is my quick happy birthday gift.  It can be made is any flavor but my fav is the chocolate with fudge.  The white flowrer cake was a white cake with strawberry filling (by request).  The others were a dark chocolate cake with a fudge filling.  The card gives instructions to revome the flowers and place upside down on a microvable plate.  After heating, it kind of becomes a lava cake!  Yummy!  You can even eat the fondant flowers (that I am still perfecting).  It can also be filled with icecream!  $25.00

My BFF turned 30!

My best friend turned 30 this year.  I wanted to do something special for her.  This was my first attempt at a topsy turvy cake.  I don't know if it can even qualify as that!  But it was fun to do and cover with things that said Jennie!  Like: The theme song to her favorite TV show and a common phrase from me to her "thank you for being a friend" Then our favorite TV show Friends.  Her last name when I met her was Anker.  She honeymooned in Jamaica when she changed that name.  I get the centers and she always get the corner brownie.  She is a major dog lover and was born and raised in NV and has an awesome view of those mountains.  I taught her to crochet but now she is way better at it than I am.  She has 2 beautiful children and I incorporated thier names along with her husband's name by making their letters an acronym.  It was fun and I love her very much!

This was chocolate on chocolate all the way around!! Even the fondant was mostly chocolate.

Nerf

This was for a friend of mine, well actually for her 10 year old son's Nerf birthday party.  I really had fun with this one!  She brought me the toy gun and it sat around for a few days while I thinking of how to do this cake.  My boys thought it was the coolest toy ever, because we have nothing even remotely gun related in this house.  The bullets are made of fondant and totally edible. The cakes are done in butter cream.  The gun is chocolate cake and the target is a white cake, colored to match the patter of the icing. (does that make sense?)  When you cut into it, it was 3 different colors.  I had fun with this cake.

Pixar Cars X2

This was for my sister's kid, on his 3rd birthday. It was all butter cream and the rounds were white and chocolate cake that looked like a checkerd flag when you cut into it. That part was a huge hit and one of my favorite fun surprises. She gave me all his little toys cars to add to the cake. The plaid was ribbon I got at the craft store. This was my first experiance with black frosting and I soon learned to...dislike it VERY much!
